IN a significant achievement for Rwanda’s tourism sector, the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE) industry experienced remarkable growth in 2023, generating over $91 million in revenue. This substantial increase from the previous year’s $64 million highlights the sector’s pivotal role in the nation’s economic landscape.
Frank Murangwa, the official in charge of publicity at the Rwanda Convention Bureau—a key player in promoting MICE activities—shared insights on the sector’s success. ‘Rwanda hosted more than 150 conferences last year, generating over $91 million for the national economy. This gives us confidence that the sector will continue to generate jobs for Rwandans while projecting a good image of the country,’ he stated during an interview with Rwanda television on Friday.
Murangwa attributed the success of Rwanda’s MICE sector to strategic infrastructure development, including substantial investments in conference facilities. These efforts played a crucial role in enabling the country to host significant international conferences, showcasing Rwanda as a premier destination for MICE-based tourism.
The MICE sector stands as a key component of Rwanda’s broader strategy to diversify tourism revenues by promoting various offerings. The notable growth in revenue underscores the effectiveness of Rwanda’s approach, positioning the country as a competitive player in the global MICE market.
As Rwanda continues to leverage its infrastructure and strategic initiatives, the MICE sector’s success not only contributes to economic growth but also strengthens the nation’s appeal as a preferred destination for international conferences and events.
