IN a testament to his influential presence, Alex Okosi, recently appointed as the Managing Director of Google Africa, has secured a place on the prestigious UK Powerlist for the third consecutive year. The UK Powerlist annually recognises the most influential Black individuals in the country, and Okosi finds himself among illustrious company, sharing the honour with prominent personalities including Vogue editor Edward Enninful, actor Ncuti Gatwa, grime musician Stormzy, and actor Idris Elba OBE.
Expressing his gratitude, Okosi took to his LinkedIn page, stating, ‘I am deeply honoured and humbled to be recognised once again on the UK Powerlist. Being acknowledged for the third consecutive year is a testament to the collective efforts in driving positive change and fostering growth within our communities. The Powerlist holds immense significance in celebrating black accomplishment, and I am proud to be a part of this distinguished cohort.’
With a career spanning over 25 years, Okosi has made significant contributions, notably transforming the music and content landscape in Africa. He played a pivotal role in the launch and growth of brands like MTV Base, Comedy Central, BET, and Nickelodeon in Africa. His inclusion on the Powerlist for the third time recognises his successful tenure at YouTube, where he significantly impacted the business by guiding the success of partners and creators across key verticals in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
Assuming the role of Managing Director of Google Africa, Okosi is entrusted with leading Google’s vision on the continent. His responsibilities involve fostering partnerships and advancing cutting-edge technologies across Africa.
The UK Powerlist was unveiled at the Celebration of Black Excellence Awards hosted at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London hotel in late October, emphasising and celebrating the achievements of Black personalities across various sectors, including technology, media, and entertainment.
