SIGNIFICANT progress has been made on the China-aided Jamestown Fishing Port Complex in Ghana, with nearly 88 percent of the project now complete. Jin Xiaodong, the general manager overseeing the construction, provided updates on the project’s status during an interview with Xinhua news agency in Accra.
Jin Xiaodong reported that the construction of the new dock, the central component of the fishing port, has been finalised and is poised for full operation upon the completion of the entire complex. At the construction site, the sounds of machinery echo as the main buildings, including the fishing market, take shape.
‘The project has entered its final phase, thanks to the dedicated efforts of both Chinese and Ghanaian workers,’ remarked Jin Xiaodong, underscoring the collaborative nature of the project.
The China-aided Jamestown Fishing Port Complex is expected to have a transformative impact on Ghana’s fishing industry and contribute to the nation’s long-term social and economic development. Jin Xiaodong emphasised that beyond its practical benefits, the project symbolizes the strong friendship and partnership between China and Ghana.
‘It is not just a construction project; it is a bridge of friendship between the two peoples,’ stated Jin Xiaodong, highlighting the significance of the collaboration.
Commencing construction in 2020, the China-aided project is on track to meet its completion deadline in June. As the finishing touches are applied to the Jamestown Fishing Port Complex, anticipation grows for the positive changes it will bring to Ghana’s coastal communities and its broader socio-economic landscape.
