IN a devastating incident, thirteen members of the same family in Namibia have lost their lives after consuming porridge that authorities believe had turned toxic due to the addition of fermented substances from a homemade alcoholic beverage.
The state broadcaster, the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), reported the incident and revealed that an additional four individuals remain in critical condition at the hospital. According to the Namibian health ministry, at least 20 people had consumed the ‘poisonous or toxic’ porridge, which was mixed with sediment from a homemade beer.
The victims, as reported by NBC, ranged in age from 2 to 33 years old. The tragic incident unfolded in the Kavango East region, located in the far northeast of the country.
