MTN Ghana says it has successfully argued against a massive GHS8.2bn ($665 million) tax bill from the Ghana government, which withdrew the bill after accusing the operator of under-declaring revenue for four years.
The operator was slapped with a massive bill by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) last month (January 13) as the company was accused of under-declaring its revenue, and subsequently being charged lower tax.
The GRA granted MTN 21 days to engage with the authority and explain its revenues between 2014-2018. MTN was accused of under-declaring revenue by 30 percent.
In a statement, the operator said the GRA had ‘fully withdrawn the assessment’ of its finances and said it ‘maintains its planned investment and developmental initiatives over the medium-term to drive digital and financial inclusion’ in Ghana.
