GHANA embarks on a groundbreaking endeavour with the launch of the Ghana Smart Schools Project, a pioneering initiative aimed at accelerating digital literacy among high school students by distributing 1.3 million free computer tablets across the country.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled the ambitious project on Monday, highlighting its pivotal role in the government’s broader agenda to digitalise all sectors of the nation. The initiative, commencing with 15 schools in its initial phase, seeks to equip students in all senior high schools with complimentary tablets to facilitate their educational journey.
Akufo-Addo emphasised the transformative potential of digitalisation, asserting that it would propel the next phase of Ghana’s free senior high school programme. The provision of free tablets aims to foster a seamless blend of online and offline teaching and learning experiences, fostering an environmentally sustainable educational environment.
In addition to the tablet distribution, President Akufo-Addo outlined plans to construct at least 30 smart schools nationwide by the year’s end. These institutions will serve as beacons of innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technology to enhance the quality and accessibility of education across Ghana.
Furthermore, the government plans to extend its support beyond high schools, with initiatives to provide discounted tablets and laptops for tertiary-level students and educators. This holistic approach underscores the commitment to fostering a conducive academic environment conducive to learning and innovation.
‘Education is at the centre of poverty eradication, and as we gather here today, let us reflect on the crucial role education plays in shaping the future of our nation,’ remarked President Akufo-Addo, underscoring the profound impact of education on national development.
The Ghana Smart Schools Project represents a bold step towards harnessing the transformative power of technology to revolutionise education, paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for Ghana and its citizens.
