A DELEGATION from Burkina Faso, led by Medah Martha Céleste Anderson from the Office of the President of Burkina Faso, engaged in discussions at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) Headquarters in Kacyiru on January 17. The visit, hosted by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Jeanne Chantal Ujeneza, aimed at exploring and understanding RNP’s robust anti-corruption initiatives.
During the interaction, DIGP Ujeneza emphasised the vital role of combating corruption as part of Rwanda’s national policy. She underscored RNP’s unwavering commitment to a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption, highlighting stringent penalties, including dismissal and legal action, for officers involved in corrupt practices. Ujeneza also emphasised the positive bilateral relations between Rwanda and Burkina Faso, framing the meeting as a significant step towards fortifying this partnership.
The DIGP provided insights into the technological measures adopted by RNP to prevent corruption. The force has embraced digitalisation, incorporating tools such as CCTV and body-worn cameras, along with speed enforcement cameras, to ensure transparency and accountability within its ranks.
Medah Martha Céleste Anderson, representing the Office of the President of Burkina Faso, acknowledged Rwanda’s remarkable progress in the anti-corruption crusade. She expressed the delegation’s keen interest in learning from RNP’s practices, recognizing the force’s pivotal role in Rwanda’s success story against corruption. This week-long visit to Rwanda, involving interactions with various sectors including anti-corruption and law enforcement, further solidifies the country’s growing reputation as a beacon of anti-corruption efforts in Africa.
