THE AU Commission chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat has extended his congratulations to Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his electoral victory.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Faki conveyed his ‘warmest congratulations’ to Faye on his official proclamation as the next president of Senegal, achieved through a decisive win in the first round of elections. Faki expressed his best wishes for Faye as he undertakes the weighty responsibility of furthering a peaceful, stable, and tolerant democracy in Senegal, with a commitment to fostering inclusive and shared prosperity for all citizens.
Faki remarked, ‘I warmly congratulate Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye on the occasion of the official proclamation of his election in the first round as the next president of Senegal. The AU Commission chairperson wishes Faye every success in his heavy and noble task of deepening a peaceful, stable and tolerant democracy in the service of inclusive and shared prosperity.’
The AU Commission chairperson highlighted the significance of the unanimous acceptance of the election results by the entirety of Senegal’s political class, a gesture welcomed by the AU as a testament to the country’s democratic maturity and commitment to the electoral process.
Faki further commended the conduct of Senegalese political and social actors throughout the electoral process. He praised their dignified and responsible behaviour, noting that it reflects the deep-seated democratic traditions ingrained within Senegal’s society.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye secured victory with an impressive 54.28 percent of the votes, as announced by Senegal’s National Vote Counting Commission on Wednesday. His success represents a significant milestone for Senegal’s political opposition and signals a new chapter in the country’s democratic journey.
