A HORRIFIC mass shooting in South Africa has claimed the lives of ten members of the same family, with seven of them being women. Police officials reported that the incident took place on Thursday night or early Friday morning when the family was ambushed by unknown gunmen in their home located in Pietermaritzburg, a city in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province.
The victims were identified as members of the Mngomezulu family. The tragedy has left the community in shock and mourning, and police have launched an investigation into the heinous crime.
Police Minister Bheki Cele is set to visit the scene of the crime to assess the situation and offer condolences to the affected family members.
South Africa has one of the highest rates of violent crime in the world, and this tragedy is just one of many incidents that have occurred in the country in recent years. In January, eight people were killed in a mass shooting at a birthday party in the south coast city of Gqeberha. Similarly, last year, 16 people lost their lives in a mass shooting at a bar in the Johannesburg township of Soweto, where a group of armed men opened fire on customers.
