SAFARICOM, the leading telecommunications company in Kenya, has teamed up with UK-based fintech firm, TerraPay, to enhance its M-PESA Global service, enabling over 32 mill
ion M-PESA customers to conveniently send and receive money to and from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
To access this new feature, customers can use the M-PESA Super app and utilize the M-PESA Global service. Alternatively, they can dial the USSD code, *334#, and select M-PESA Global from the ‘Send Money’ menu.
The telco also announced that it will soon expand the service to include India and Nepal in the coming months, further broadening its reach across the region.
With the inclusion of TerraPay, the M-PESA Global service now boasts an extensive network of over 35 partners, empowering customers in Kenya to conduct cross-border transactions with more than 170 different countries worldwide.
During Safaricom’s most recent fiscal year, the M-PESA Global service garnered impressive numbers, with over 917,000 users utilising the platform to perform more than 31.8 million transactions, amounting to a staggering total of over KSh418bn (about $3bn).
Moreover, these achievements highlight the M-PESA service’s significant impact on the remittance market in Kenya, handling over 90 percent of the country’s remittances efficiently and securely.
