THE Kremlin announced on Monday that Russia would maintain ongoing discussions with a group of African countries seeking to mediate in the conflict with Ukraine. The dialogue is expected to continue at the upcoming Russia-Africa summit next month, as some of the proposals put forth by the African delegation were deemed workable.
During a meeting in St. Petersburg on Saturday, President Vladimir Putin provided the seven-country African delegation with a list of reasons why he believed many of their suggestions were misguided, dampening hopes for a plan that had already been largely dismissed by Kyiv.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Monday that despite the differences in opinions, talks with the African delegation would persist, as certain proposals could potentially be implemented. Peskov did not specify which ideas he was referring to.
‘In general, the dialogue with the Africans will continue,’ stated Peskov. ‘There are certain themes in the ideas outlined during the talks by members of the delegation which could be implemented, as President Putin said. This work will continue, including at the Russia-Africa summit to be held in a month in St. Petersburg,’ he added.
The Russia-Africa summit, scheduled for next month, will provide a platform for further discussions and potential progress in addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
