THE Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) held preliminary negotiations with Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, and expertise infrastructure firm Expertise Metropolis, to develop a digital hub for digital economic growth. The aim is to negotiate something like the Dubai Virtual Free Zone. Nigeria will be the first African nation to secure this facility if the negotiations succeed.
Adesoji Adesugba, Managing Director of NEPZA, said the proposed zone can be the first in West Africa designed to supply crypto-friendly legal guidelines, rules and tax incentives to crypto companies.
Nigeria has the second largest market for cryptocurrencies in Africa, with a 24.2 Adoption Rating.
Adesugba stated the zone will assist develop Nigeria’s digital financial system and ‘increase job alternatives’ for Nigerians.
‘Our aim is to create a thriving digital free zone to harness the almost $1 trillion digital financial system on blockchain and the digital financial system.’
The early-stage plans have been mentioned at a gathering in Dubai on September 2 with Adesugba, Binance Government Director Nadeem Radki, Expertise Metropolis CEO Lukman Edu, and NEPZA Director Sikir Rawal.
