Colonel Amadou Abdramane, the government spokesman, stated that Niger is anticipating President Macron’s declaration to be followed by formal actions from the competent French authorities.
Abdramane emphasised that the withdrawal of French troops should be conducted within a negotiated framework and through mutual agreement to ensure maximum efficiency. This statement was delivered in a late-night address on national television on Monday.
President Emmanuel Macron’s recent announcement regarding the planned withdrawal of French soldiers from Niger by the end of the year, along with the return of Ambassador Sylvain Itte to Paris, follows weeks of protests against the presence of the French army in Niger.
