nature in 2025 opening
MARRIOTT International is set to make its entrance into the luxury safari market with the launch of its first-ever Autograph Collection safari camp in Tanzania’s iconic Serengeti National Park.
Slated to open in the third quarter of 2025, the new property—Mapito Safari Cam
p, Serengeti, Autograph Collection—will offer a uniquely immersive safari experience, combining the rugged beauty of the African wild with the refined hospitality of the Autograph Collection brand.
The camp will be positioned near the Fort Ikoma gate, along the path of the Great Migration, one of the planet’s most awe-inspiring natural events. Between May and July, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes pass directly through this area. Year-round, the region remains rich in game, including lions, elephants, giraffes, leopards, and buffalo.
Luxury tents under Serengeti skies
The camp is expected to feature 16 tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa, each with an outdoor deck, a private fire pit, and—uniquely for the region—a retractable roof for stargazing beneath the Serengeti sky.
Guests will also have access to a spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, and multiple dining venues, including The Boma, a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.
‘Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations,’ said Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Marriott International.
A celebration of culture and conservation
Rooted in the local Ikoma culture, the design of the camp will reflect its surroundings while integrating sustainable building practices to minimise its environmental footprint.
Planned experiences include day and night game drives, walking safaris, hot air balloon flights, and cultural encounters with the Ikoma community, giving guests a deep and personalised understanding of the land and its people.
Developer Rishen Patel said the project was about more than just comfort:
‘This camp will offer an intimate and immersive experience that reflects both the natural wonder of the region and the timeless storytelling and craftsmanship of the brand.’
Expansion into experiential travel
The launch signals a strategic move by Marriott into experiential and nature-based tourism, an increasingly important segment of luxury travel. The Autograph Collection, known for its curated and character-rich properties, currently features over 330 hotels globally.
With the addition of the Serengeti camp, Marriott is placing itself at the heart of East Africa’s thriving high-end safari circuit, responding to growing demand for travel that blends authenticity, comfort, and conservation.
