SOUTH African authorities have announced the arrest of a man on Monday for allegedly distributing pornographic images in which the faces of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and Cele’s wife were superimposed. The suspect, a 34-year-old individual, is set to appear in court in Pretoria on Tuesday, facing charges of contravening the Cyber Crimes Act, specifically related to the unlawful accessing or processing of computer data.
According to the police, the accused shared these explicit images on social media platforms, targeting both law enforcement officers and the general public. The investigation into the matter was initiated in May when the images first surfaced, leading authorities to track down the suspect in the city of Pietermaritzburg, located in the eastern part of the country.
While pornography itself is legal in South Africa, there are restrictions on its distribution. The arrest serves as a reminder that sharing explicit content without consent, especially when it involves public figures, can lead to criminal charges.
