IN a statement released on Tuesday, Switzerland’s attorney general announced that an indictment has been filed against Ousman Sonko, Gambia’s former interior minister, for crimes against humanity committed during the regime of ex-strongman leader Yahya Jammeh.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, Sonko is accused of supporting, participating in, and failing to prevent ‘systematic and generalized attacks’ carried out by security forces against Jammeh’s opponents. The case, which has been under investigation for over six years, is scheduled to be heard at Switzerland’s Federal Criminal Court on a date yet to be specified.
