A NEW global ranking from CEOWORLD Magazine has highlighted the African countries travellers most want to visit at least once in their lifetime, underscoring the continent’s rising profile among long-haul tourists. Drawing on responses from more than 295,000 people worldwide, the list blends heritage, adventure and coastal beauty to showcase Africa’s most compelling destinations.
South Africa, Egypt and Cape Verde lead the continental rankings, each offering a distinctive mix of culture, landscapes and memorable experiences.
South Africa tops the continent
South Africa emerged as the highest-ranked African destination, scoring 59.76 and placing sixth globally. CEOWORLD Magazine notes that the country’s enduring appeal lies in its extraordinary diversity: dramatic mountain ranges, sweeping deserts, subtropical forests, vast bushlands and an extensive coastline.
Cape Town remains a major highlight, offering a rare blend of natural beauty, culinary excellence, wine estates and vibrant nightlife. Beyond the city, travellers can explore world-class game reserves, fossil-rich regions like the Karoo and cultural environments that vary markedly from province to province.
This combination of comfort, adventure and cultural depth continues to define South Africa as one of the world’s most satisfying long-haul destinations.
Egypt’s timeless pull
Egypt follows as the second-ranked African destination, with a global score of 54.63. Its powerful historical legacy — from the pyramids and Pharaonic temples to the Nile River and desert landscapes — remains central to its draw.
CEOWORLD Magazine also highlights Egypt’s modern dynamism, with coastal resorts and lively urban centres adding a contemporary layer to its millennia-old appeal.
Cape Verde, Morocco and Mozambique complete the top five
Cape Verde ranks third, celebrated for its Atlantic island charm, volcanic terrain, music culture and relaxed pace. Morocco, in fourth position, continues to attract travellers with its colourful souks, Atlas Mountains, desert routes and imperial cities.
Mozambique rounds out the top five, recognised for its tropical coastline, marine life and tranquil beach settings that appeal to travellers seeking slower, scenic escapes.
What the ranking signals
Across the top-ranked countries, a common theme emerges: range. Travellers increasingly gravitate toward destinations offering varied experiences — nature, culture, history and coastline — all within a single trip. According to CEOWORLD Magazine, these African countries deliver precisely that balance, making them stand out in a competitive global travel landscape.
