Keypoints:

  • Burna Boy nears 60m Spotify listeners
  • Reported recent tour grosses exceed $33.5m
  • Afrobeats is becoming serious export business

BURNA Boy is closing in on 60 million monthly listeners on Spotify, extending a remarkable global streaming surge that is reinforcing his position as one of Africa’s most commercially powerful music acts.

The significance goes well beyond another celebrity milestone. Burna Boy’s expanding streaming audience, combined with tens of millions of dollars in disclosed concert revenues, provides a measurable picture of how African music is converting cultural influence into global commercial power.

Spotify audience closes on 60m

Spotify’s latest indexed artist page showed the Nigerian star with 57,705,731 monthly listeners, ranking him among the platform’s most widely heard artists worldwide.

The figure follows an extraordinary rise. Burna Boy crossed 50 million monthly listeners in July, becoming the first African artist reported to have reached that threshold. Earlier in the month, he had already overtaken the previous African benchmark after reaching 47.4 million.

His streaming surge has coincided with Dai Dai, his collaboration with Colombian superstar Shakira. FIFA selected the track as the official FIFA World Cup 2026 song, dramatically expanding its exposure across markets beyond Afrobeats’ traditional audience.

Spotify said streams of Dai Dai increased 136 percent during the tournament period, illustrating the impact of football’s global audience on the collaboration.

Touring numbers reveal commercial scale

Burna Boy’s live business provides an equally striking measure of his international reach.

Touring Data records his I Told Them… tour as generating $30,463,574 from 302,801 tickets across 22 reported shows.

That included $6.147m from London Stadium, where 58,973 tickets were sold, and $4.528m from Stade de France in Paris.

His subsequent No Sign of Weakness tour has so far generated another $3,123,623 from 30,946 tickets, according to Touring Data. But that figure covers only four of 21 dates listed in its database, with box-office returns for the remaining shows still unavailable.

Together, the two datasets establish at least $33.59m in reported recent tour grosses.

That figure represents gross ticket revenue, not Burna Boy’s personal earnings. Promoters, venues, production costs, taxes and contractual splits all reduce the amount ultimately received by an artist.

His stadium success builds on a trajectory Africa Briefing has followed since his landmark UK performances demonstrated Afrobeats’ ability to command stadium-scale audiences.

Afrobeats becomes export business

Burna Boy’s numbers sit inside a much larger African music expansion.

Spotify says Afrobeats streams increased 349-fold between 2014 and 2025, making the genre one of the fastest-growing in the platform’s history.

In Nigeria alone, Afrobeats listening has increased 5,022 percent since 2021, while the number of Nigerian artists available on Spotify has risen 158 percent.

That growth increasingly carries economic weight. Africa Briefing has reported that Nigerian artists earned $37.5m from Spotify in 2024, while the country’s wider music industry is now estimated to generate about $600m annually.

Burna Boy increasingly represents the upper end of that transformation: an African artist able to combine mass global streaming with multimillion-dollar arena and stadium performances.

The next symbolic barrier is 60 million Spotify monthly listeners. But even before that threshold is reached, his numbers point to a broader shift — African music is no longer simply travelling globally. It is building global-scale businesses around the artists producing it.
